The Nissan GT-R R34 is regarded as one of Japan’s greatest motorcars.
For many car enthusiasts it is the best Nissan ever made and today it has become one of the most collectable Japanese cars with some selling for hundreds of thousands of dollars.
However, how much did the Nissan GT-R R34 cost when it was new and how does that translate into today’s money?
The first Nissan GT-R R34 would roll off the production line in January 1999 and production would continue until 2002. It was one of the most advanced cars of its time and it retained Nissan’s much loved RB26DETT engine from the R32 and R33 GT-Rs.
In 1999 prices for the Nissan GT-R R34 in Japan started at 4,998,000 Yen (US $45,606), which in today’s money is around $70,185. This is quite a bit less than the $113,540 starting price for the base model 2020 R35 GT-R.
By the last year of production the GT-R M SPEC NUR model cost as much as 6,300,000 Yen (US $57,487) or $81,929 in today’s money. Below we have listed the different models and years of the Nissan GT-R R34 and their original prices in Japan. We have also included the conversion to USD and what those prices equal today.

How Much Does a Nissan GT-R R34 Cost in 2020?
Prices for the Nissan GT-R R34 have continually risen over the last few years, with the most sought-after model being the 2003 Z-Tune. In 2016, an R34 GT-R Z-Tune sold for over $500,000 in Hong Kong, making it the most expensive GT-R and one of the most expensive Japanese cars of all time.

How much does it cost now in 2022 if I purchase a simple GTR and import it to Pakistan?
Hi Muhammad, how are you? Thanks for taking the time to comment.
I presume you are referring to an R34 Nissan Skyline GT-R and not the R35 GT-R?
So would it be cheaper for me to buy a R34 in Japan and bring it back over to the states or no?
Potentially – but bear in mind that the R34 GT-R is not eligible for import into the United States yet (at least not if you want to drive it on the road). Our article here as a lot more information: https://garagedreams.net/car-facts/why-are-nissan-skylines-illegal-in-the-united-states
Buying ex-Japan should allow you to get the car for less money, but it’s the issues around compliance etc that could be problematic. Unless you just want to buy, store, and then register once it gets to 25 years old.
