How Much Did The First Gen Honda NSX Cost New?

When the Original Honda/Acura NSX launched in 1990 it was not only designed to take on the likes of Ferrari’s supercars, but it was also designed to do so while being much more practical and much cheaper. The Honda NSX was arguably the best value high-end supercar available at the time and it proved to be hugely popular.

While the NSX was cheaper than much of its competition, Honda didn’t cheap out on the components and technology that made up the car. It was the world’s first mass-produced car to feature an all-aluminium body and it was powered by an all-aluminium 3.0-litre V6 engine with Honda’s Variable Valve Timing technology (VTEC).

In North America the NSX was sold under Honda’s premium brand name, Acura. Honda would also launch a special edition of the NSX known as the NSX-R in 1992, that was designed to be the most extreme version of the car. Performance updates would come in 1997 and in 2002 the car was given a facelift and an updated version of the NSX-R was launched.

Today, the Honda/Acura NSX is one of Japan’s most collectible cars, especially the NSX-R and other special edition models. For example, this 1999 Acura NSX Zanardi Edition car with 12,000 miles on the clock has just recently sold for well over US $200,000.

While it is interesting to see how much the Honda NSX costs today, we were interested to find out how much they sold for when they were brand new and how much that is in today’s money. We put together a quick guide below on our findings based on the price of the Honda NSX in Japan.

How Much Does a Honda NSX Cost Today?

We have already touched on this topic earlier in this article with the Acura NSX Zanardi Edition that went for well over US $200,000, however, that car is a bit of an extreme case as it has only travelled 12K miles and has only had one owner from new.

From data on Bring A Trailer it can be seen that most Acura/Honda NSXs sell for around $60,000 to $100,000 in the United States. The lowest prices seem to be around the $40,000 mark for a lower spec model in worse condition.
